The confirmed shift loop
Shift At Midnight combines two jobs that compete for attention. You operate a gas station by stocking shelves, taking deliveries, cleaning, serving customers, and selling enough products to meet the nightly quota. At the same time, you interrogate customers because some are doppelgangers pretending to be human.
- Maintain the store. Keep normal station tasks moving instead of treating the detective work as the only objective.
- Question each customer. The official description says every customer should be interrogated as they are served.
- Check the evidence. Examine the ID, cross-check details on the computer, and observe behavior.
- Make an in-game call. Decide whether the customer is human before letting them leave.
- Switch to survival if a check fails. Board doors, place traps, and hide when a doppelganger returns as a monster.
Before the first customer
The official material does not publish a fixed opening sequence, so this is an editorial team checklist rather than a claimed game requirement. Its purpose is to stop the two workstreams from being forgotten during a busy shift.
- Locate the store-work areas. Identify where shelves, deliveries, cleaning, and customer service happen once the public build is available.
- Locate verification tools. Confirm how the ID and computer are accessed before relying on memory under pressure.
- Name the decision caller. In co-op, agree who makes the final in-game decision after the team reports evidence.
- Name the emergency call. Use one short phrase to signal the switch from normal work to barricading, traps, and hiding.
The checklist organizes confirmed mechanics. It does not claim a control binding, room layout, timer, price, quota value, or guaranteed strategy.
What changes in co-op
The game supports online co-op for up to three players and includes proximity chat. The official listing does not define character classes, so any role split is a team convention, not a hidden stat system.
- Store lead: keeps shelves, deliveries, cleaning, service, and quota pressure visible.
- Verification lead: reads the ID, checks the computer, and reports only observed evidence.
- Safety lead: watches for a failed check and calls the transition to the survival phase.
With two players, combine store and safety duties. Solo players can use the same sequence as a mental checklist without treating the suggested roles as game systems.
Do not memorize these yet
As of July 15, 2026, the public Steam information does not establish exact customer anomalies, dialogue solutions, control bindings, trap values, monster routes, quota amounts, or shift-by-shift outcomes. Any page claiming a complete answer key before release should be treated cautiously.
We will add exact steps only after reproducing them in the public build and recording the game version and test date.
